This meeting's topic will be mainly about adopting and submitting packages in Arch Linux. If you use Arch and are comfortable with (and at least) bash, then get involved in the AUR and become a package maintainer.

I may also talk about other small topics if anyone is interested, such as web development security, or maybe a small intro to Asterisk.

Thanks

A special thank you goes to UT's ACM group, who are nice enough to reserve us a meeting room at the university and who helps us organize the installfest event every year. Thanks guys!

Also thank you to everyone who shows up at our meetings. You are the reason we still have monthly meetings.

TALUG is in need of guest speakers for various topics. Please see Steve at the meetings if you'd like to volunteer to give a talk or know someone who might.

Penguicon 2015
through
Westin Southfield Hotel (Southfield MI)

Penguicon is a three-day event where we all learn from each other (as well as from our Guests of Honor) about hacking, building sci-fi universes, soldering, painting miniatures, gaming, coding, music, incredible costumes, and more.

Our two pillars are Science Fiction and Open Source, but we cover as many diverse nerdy interests as possible. We have a consuite with free soda, coffee, munchies and other real food, which makes it easier on your budget. You can find all kinds of original artwork and non-commodity crafts in our enormous Maker Market.

Over 1,300 nerds, geeks, and fans attend Penguicon every year to celebrate and share in what we all love. We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit convention which brings together every kind of geek – software developers, moviemakers, authors and their fans, hackers, foodies – for a weekend of sharing in panels, workshops, and parties.

Dozens of people work on the convention throughout the year, for no more than a pat on the back as people come ‘home’ to Penguicon each year. Penguicon has helped people collaborate on new art projects, meet life-long friends and change careers.

A Toledo meet-up group is organizing a trip to Penguicon: http://www.meetup.com/newintown-645/events/221616319/

Meeting Notes

April is our yearly installfest event in cooperation with UT's ACM group and the Toledo Web Professionals. Together, we volunter to help new (and sometimes even experienced) users get set up with Linux and other open-source software distributions.

If you prefer a distribution (or even if you're not sure which one to pick), a volunteer will help you get the distribution installed and configured on your own machine, whether it be a desktop, laptop, or even an embedded platform, such as the Raspberry Pi.

We are also looking for volunteers to help out. If you're proficient in a particular distribution, please send an email to scook@talug.org with your full name, email, and which distribution you'd like to volunteer to provide help with. Lists of distros and volunteers will be posted on our website and handed out at the event.

PGP Key-signing Party

We will also be having a PGP key-signing party at the installfest. If you currently use a PGP key and would like to get it digitally signed by others at the meeting, please email scook@talug.org with your full name (as it appears on your key), any e-mail addresses associated with your key, your key fingerprint, and the full URL where your public key may be retrieved. Lists of keys will be handed out at the meeting for anyone participating.

Other Notes

Pizza and drinks will also be provided by TALUG for the event, and we will also be raffling off a few prizes: one (1) 256mb Raspberry Pi model B with case, and four (4) OpenPGP v2 smartcards. If you have something you'd like to donate to the group to be raffled off, please let us know.

Let's make this a big event! See you there!
