Education, Information and Peer-Group Networking to Build Ohio’s Dedicated Public Safety Broadband Network From the Ground Up

The public safety community is in a period of great transition. Over the next 10 years, technology advancements will increase accessibility of data/video applications to public safety, and allow for the eventual migration of voice communications from disparate Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks to Long-Term Evolution (LTE) broadband networks.

Thanks to all the hard work done at the Federal level by staff and board members of FirstNet (the First Responders Network Authority) Ohio public safety agencies, municipalities and emergency services personnel are on the cusp of a dedicated LTE-enabled broadband network.

We know that FirstNet Ohio will usher in a new era of public safety applications that will greatly enhanced capabilities for first responders such as real-time video streaming, predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, unparalleled situational awareness, and much more. The public sector will reap the rewards of application development and innovation that characterize the commercial sector.

Still, there is much work that remains for Ohio to get the Public Safety Broadband Network in Ohio up and running as soon as possible, to take advantage of all that LTE can enable today. It is for this reason we have developed the Public Safety Broadband Ohio industry conference and exhibition. Our goal is to assemble Ohio First Responders, Emergency Services and Secondary Users — under one roof, at the same time — to network, exchange information, learn from State and National leaders, and meet the companies that will drive the development of Ohio’s Public Safety Broadband Network over the next decade.

Every state, municipality and jurisdiction is unique, with unique partnerships, policies, guidelines, technology solutions and applications that will deliver value for the public safety community. In Ohio alone, there are more than 480 local law enforcement agencies and approximately 1150 Fire Department agencies. Add to that Emergency Medical Services, Hospitals, State and Federal Agencies – and it quickly becomes apparent that there are many stakeholders who will benefit from education, networking and information-sharing on this important technology subject matter.

A key component of this event are Public Safety applications — including development tools and new devices – that will transform the way first responders carry out their duties. How much—and how quickly—public safety is transformed largely depends on the development and adoption rate of value-added public-safety-grade apps.

As a leader in Ohio you are invited you to participate in this inaugural event and join leaders from the wireless industry, Ohio’s Department of Administrative Services, public safety organizations, and your peers from throughout Ohio. There is no cost for attending if you are employed in the public sector, and by attending and contributing your thoughts, knowledge and insight – you will help to make this event useful and meaningful to the entire FirstNet community.

I hope you will join us in November and participate in the transition in Ohio to a next generation broadband wireless network designed for public safety and first responders.
