SPEAKERS: Brian Dynda, Packaging Engineer/Sales Doug Brown Packaging Products, Inc.

TOPIC: Brian will speak on innovations in the packaging industry. Brain manages the Northwest Ohio territory with a focus on bagging, food packaging, fulfillment and industrial packaging. He has an extensive background in packaging and is a graduate of Michigan State University’s school of packaging. Doug Brown Packaging specialties are in: Protective Packaging, sustainable packaging products, returnable packaging, standard polybags, Autobags, Cortec VCI products, Sealed Air Products, and Ranpak products.

TST is dedicated to serving its member organizations, corporations, educational institutions and individuals to help keep this region vital, viable and growing. Such an umbrella organization facilitates cooperative efforts by gathering engineering, technology, business and community together for monthly Friday luncheons as well as cosponsoring the award-winning Toledo Area Engineers Week.

The annual TST/TSPE/ASCE economic forecast meeting will kick off 2012. The speakers will discuss the outlook for stock markets and investing, commercial loans and banking, and employment and hiring trends from a local and national perspective.

In 2003 Mercy St. Vincent became the first hospital in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, and the 99th hospital in the nation, to offer state-of-the-art robotic surgery with the daVinci Surgical System. Today we are the only system in the area to have two daVinci Surgical Systems. In just eight years our surgeons have performed more than 1,500 robotically-assisted procedures, the highest total volume of robotic cases in the city of Toledo.

As an expert in robotic surgery, Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center is delighted that Dr. Dino Santacroce is available to care for patients. Dr. Santacroce is an Urologist with the Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Institute of NWO and is Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Dr. Santacroce received his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University, his medical degree from The University of Toledo – Medical College of Ohio and completed his residency in Urologic Surgery through the Medical College as well.

Thus far, Dr. Santacroce has earned the Edward F. Ockuly Award for outstanding achievements in clinical Urology and recently scored the highest in the nation on the Urology Inservice Examination. Dr. Santacroce has served the Ohio Urologic Society as Resident Representative and has several areas of research experience.

A technician from Intuitive Surgical will be joining Dr. Santacroce for the presentation. Intuitive Surgical has brought the innovative technology of the da Vinci robot to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and this technology is assisting Dr. Santacroce in providing expert care to his patients.

The May Technical Society of Toledo luncheon will be Friday May 18th at the Toledo Club.

Featured speaker will be: Chris Hamady, Director of Technology, Central Catholic High School.

Chris graduated in 1992 from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University with a BA in voice. He completed a master's degree in music composition and a second master's in choral conducting in 1997 from Bowling Green State University. He was awarded the BGSU James Paul Kennedy Music Achievement award for outstanding graduate student in music that same year. Over the past 14 years, Chris has taught at all educational levels from kindergarten through college.

Chris will be discussing the integration of technology in the classroom as well as the Apple Distinguished School award that CCHS has received for the past 3 years under his guidance. CCHS is one of only 56 schools in the nation to receive this award in 2012. Chris himself has received an Apple Distinguished Educator award in 2007 for the innovative use of Apple products in education.

The Technical Society of Toledo presents Tim Iorio, President of HRI & Associates LLC, on "Continuous Improvement in a Changing World" at its next Friday Luncheon.

Join us as Mr. Iorio details continuous improvement tools as applied to the technical side of the business - i.e., engineering, architects, designers, project managers. He will show that continuous improvement tools do work - across all fields. In the United States, the third full week of February is National Engineers Week. It is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies.

The purpose of National Engineers Week is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make. It is also a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills.

"Medical Device Engineering at Work" by John Gorski, CEO of NAMSA, Friday lunch series by the Technical Society of Toledo.

A brief history about medical devices, and engineering challenges that are routinely addressed in helping diagnose and treat a variety of disease states. Formula SAE is a student-led competition sanctioned by SAE International. Teams of college students are challenged to design, build, and race an open wheel formula-style race car. These cars are judged at an international competition on not only the car’s dynamic performance, but also on the design, manufacturing methods, project budget and overall professionalism of the car and team. Formula SAE has over 400 chapters at universities around the globe that participate in a number of regional competitions worldwide.

Student members have the opportunity to compliment their lessons in the classroom with hands-on engineering experiences and leadership opportunities that allow for students to increase both their technical knowledge and their soft skills.

UT-ASCE is hosting the 2015 ASCE North Central Student Conference where their teams will compete in both the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions. This is the first time that the chapter is hosting the conference in over a decade and the chapter is looking forward to using this conference as an opportunity to connect with area professionals to highlight what The University of Toledo and greater Toledo area have to offer!

Toledo's Engineers Week is a celebration of engineering in the form of several events in February.
