The event will be Halloween themed and will feature seasonally appropriate soups from guest chefs, a costume contest, a raffle, and an amazing opportunity to help change your community! 5th Toledo SOUP: Summer Luau –
Mad Ave Collective
Put on your Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts, it's time to celebrate summertime and awesome community initiatives at Toledo SOUP's Summer Luau event. The event is set for Sunday, June 22nd from 5-8 p.m. at Mad Ave. Collective, 1600 Madison Avenue in Uptown Toledo. For a $5 entry fee/donation ($1 for children 12 and under), you will receive a vote to help make an idea become a reality. Join us for a complimentary simple meal of soup, salad, and bread while you learn about several community initiatives, and decide upon where all the donations will go. The presenter with the most votes at the end of the evening recieves the Toledo SOUP micro-grant (all the money collected at the door). Our events typically generate $500-$1000 for the top presenter. Stay tuned! The top finalists who will present at our event on Sunday, June 22nd will be announced shortly! Toledo SOUP is a crowd-funding opportunity for community members to contribute or enact small-dollar projects to positively impact the Toledo area community. Past Toledo SOUP events have benefited Glass City Goat Girls—building a fence for their urban goat farm; New Life Urban Agriculture—Growing local mushrooms for area consumers and businesses; Art of Hope—helping women transition out of human trafficking and away from domestic violence; Art Around—providing creative and educational art activities for area youth; and Glass City Pedicabs—Toledo’s first 100% green transportation company. |

My Brother’s Place
The location for the next Toledo SOUP event has been determined! It will be held at My Brother’s Place, which is at 316 Adams (near the corner of Summit, next to Trinity Episcopal church.) Look for an A-frame sign on the sidewalk when you get there to guide you to the entrance. Toledo SOUP is a community effort that activates local initiatives with micro-grants. This effort creates public buy-in on small, feasible projects that have a large impact on our community. Do you have an idea or project in mind, but no funds to execute? Toledo SOUP is for you. Join Toledo SOUP on Sunday, October 25 from 5-8 p.m. at the historic Ohio Theatre and Events Center (3112 Lagrange St.) to eat delicious soups provided by local chefs, hear presentations on projects that benefit the Toledo area, and vote for your favorite proposal. Due to the growth of the nonprofit and to accommodate as many groups in need as possible, the organization has divided SOUP events into themes. The theme for the October 25 event is "Art and Artists," inviting all art-oriented businesses, community projects and nonprofits to submit proposals. Future themed events will include Social Welfare and Entrepreneurship. |

Out of those, five have been selected to present at the March 4th meal event. The five finalists are as follows below, in no particular order. After the dinner at the event, those attending will vote, and only one top vote-getter will leave with the funds that evening.

Submissions for the Spring SOUP Social are in, and there are so many good ideas to choose from. Mark your calendar ... the next SOUP is May 20th from 4:00 - 6:00 on the roof of the Toledo Main Branch Library (325 N. Michigan Street). Over the next couple of weeks, this round's top-secret judges will narrow the applicants down to four finalists. Those finalists will pitch their ideas on the 20th and one lucky winner will take home $750 - $1,250 to make their great idea become a reality. |

Toledo SOUP is back for its third course of crowd-funded community projects. Please join us on Sunday, September 8th, from 5-9 p.m. at Toledo School for the Arts, located at 333 14th Street #4 in Uptown Toledo. You’ll hear from five new presenters, including Genevieve Abalos (The Art of Hope), Ben Cohen (The Macelwane Park Basketball Court Project), Aimee Reid (Children’s Theatre Workshop), Rachel Richardson (Art Corner Toledo) and Jamie Sampson (ADJ-ective New Music). The public will decide which proposal will benefit from SOUP’s crowd-funding assistance.SOUP guests will also get to enjoy a brief presentation by our last micro-grant recipient, Audrey Johnson of Art Around Town. So how does SOUP work? First you come to the event and donate $5 at the door ($1 for children ages 12 and under). Then eat a simple meal of soup, salad and bread while you listen to ideas for new community projects. Finally, vote for your favorite project. The top vote-getter will be awarded all the funds collected at the door. |
