Service Recovery: Responding to Customers After a Service Failure
Brandywine Country Club

AdClub Monthly Luncheon Program.

Dr. Dwayne D. Gremler Professor of Marketing, Department of Marketing College of Business Administration, Bowling Green State University

Service Recovery: Responding to Customers After a Service Failure

Many companies understand the importance of providing excellent recovery for disappointed customers. In this presentation Dr. Dwayne Gremler will examine various strategies and approaches firms should consider when they have not delivered upon their promises to a customer. Excellent service recovery is really a combination of a variety of strategies, and generally speaking falls into two general types. One type includes the actions taken by the firm to restore the relationship with the customer-that is, to “fix the customer.” The second type is the actions taken to correct the problem and, ideally, to prevent it from recurring-that is, to “fix the problem.” Clearly both types of actions are important, but in many situations fixing the customer may need to be done before fixing the problem.

Why the Survival of Every Business Will Depend on Trustability
Toledo Club

Pluto is Not Really a Planet and Social Media is Not Really Media: Why the Survival of Every Business Will Depend on Trustability

Martha Rogers, Ph.D. will bring to this session the research and thinking based on her latest book with Don Peppers, Extreme Trust: Honesty as a Competitive Advantage. Catapulted into social networking and interconnectivity, your customers are fast ensuring that the world they live in is a transparent one, at least where you’re concerned. Suddenly, your company doesn’t get to control what’s said about yourself; what others say about you matters far more than your branding and advertising efforts. Now it’s about customer experience, customer relationships, and the trust that makes those relationships measurably valuable to company and customer.

In this presentation, Dr. Rogers returns to AAF Toledo to discuss insight into how global executives think of social and business channels, implications for on-the-ground marketers and social media managers, and how you can start building trustability within your organization and for your clients, from the ground up.

You Mean, Social Media Isn't Free?
Brandywine Country Club

Monthly Luncheon Program of the Toledo chapter of the American Advertising Federation (formerly AdClub).

Amy Drill, Director of Social Strategy, Embark Digital

In this, I'm looking to tackle the changes across all social media platforms and the shifts toward a higher emphasis on paid media in social. On Facebook, many brands are starting to see Reach plummet. As recently as last year, brands could estimate that between 12-16% of their audience would see their posts. Less than 6 months after that, brands are seeing that number cut in half. For marketers, Facebook is making the next step pretty clear by emphasizing paid advertising to boost posts and help recoup some of that lost reach and engagement. The field day that marketers previously had with being able to use social media as a "free" distribution channel for their content is now dwindling. Many brands are balking at the thought of paying to promote on a "free" channel, but was social really ever free? Maybe the way for us to think about these changes aren't that we now need to pay to promote content, but that we need to re-evaluate all the learnings that we've had up until this point, and use that information to help create better content.

Amy currently resides in Rochester, MI but is a hometown girl from Oregon, OH.

Embark touts they are a social and digital marketing agency helping brands find their unique story and share it with the world. Embark believes that every journey has a story that can inspire you to change course, take action, or start a revolution. They feel their job is to help brands find their story and share it with the world. And who doesn't love a good story?
