Applications of Text Retrieval, Classification, and Mining Venu G. Dasigi, Professor and Chair Department of Computer Science Bowling Green State University

Abstract: This presentation will summarize the presenter’s work on feature selection and fusion in text information retrieval and classification, and different applications of the techniques. Some of the issues, such as the need to address the large dimensionality, the need to evaluate the number and quality of features, as well as their combinations, will be described briefly. A brief exposition to the presenter’s joint work with other researchers in mining biomedical literature for identifying relationships among genes will also be made. Other applications involving working with students on applying information retrieval techniques to television program selection through an analysis of closed caption transcripts and on analyzing patterns in the poetry of "Generation 1927" Spanish poets will also be briefly described.
